In 1913, William A. Stewart opened a small coffee company on the edge of downtown Chicago with a dream: to craft a better cup – Stewarts Red Eye – one coffee bold enough to earn the title of Chicago’s Official Coffee.

But one coffee blend wasn’t made for the morning paper or Sunday brunch. This coffee was made for the most serious coffee drinkers, the American Patriot. So bold, so full, never bitter!

Rumor has it, Stewarts was recruited in the mid 1940’s under private contract to develop a stronger coffee – one designed to keep American pilots and other military personnel awake and alert through long missions. The result? A dark, intense roast packed with focus and fire. A serious brew with Attitude. A secret coffee blend later to become Stewarts Red Eye.

Today, Joe Cappuccitti, his son Joey, and additional family members, continue to roast Stewarts Red Eye by hand in the suburbs of Chicago – brewing the same fuel that once powered the skies.
